New image option for your list

Posted October 29, 2023 in Updates

We’re happy to introduce a new feature that lets you fine-tune the way your images appear in your wishlist.

By default, Wishlistr stretches images to fit the entire image container while still maintaining their aspect ratios. This default setting works wonderfully for a wide range of images, especially those that are square or rectangular in shape, with generous amounts of background space surrounding the subject. However, we understand that not all images are created equal, and sometimes, this default setting may result in unwanted cropping for certain types of images.

That’s where the “Do not stretch the image” option comes into play. With this feature, you have the power to ensure that your image will not be cropped, preserving every pixel of your precious photos. Of course, every choice comes with its trade-offs. Enabling this option means that your image won’t completely fill the image container, which might result in varying amounts of empty space around it. Still, for some images this is preferable. So, if you’re having issues with an image being cut off, try checking the ”Do not stretch the image” option” when you add or edit an image.

Your wishlist, your way!

Clickable tags on your public wishlist

We just rolled out a small – but long awaited – feature that lets your wishlist viewers filter your list by clicking on the tags.

If you want to know more about tags you can read more about it here and enable it from your settings page.

Try it out and don’t forget to let us know what you think.

Block from following

Posted February 21, 2015 in Updates

We just released the first step towards better privacy controls on Wishlistr – the ability to block other users from following you.

You can block users from their profile page by clicking the gear icon (to the right of the “Wishlist” button). This will open a menu where you have the option to block the user. Blocking a user means that the user won’t be able to follow you on Wishlistr. It also means the user won’t be able to view your profile or wishlist while logged in. If you block a user that is already following you, that user will be removed from your followers list.

As said, this is a first small enhancement to the privacy controls on Wishlistr, and we plan to do more during the year. Let us know what’s important for you!

Reserve items

Posted November 17, 2013 in Updates

When sending out your list to an extended number of people you sometimes run the risk of getting duplicate gifts. Today we’re happy to release a new feature that will solve this. Friends and family can now mark items on your list as “reserved”, if they have bought (or are planning to buy) a specific item on your list. Once someone reserves an item, others will immediately be able to see who’s planning on giving that item and can easily avoid buying the same thing.

You can enable this new feature from the settings page

With this feature enabled you won’t see any of the reservations yourself when you edit your list. And if you try to sneak peek at them on your public list we will try to warn you first before displaying anything (hey, we don’t want to spoil the surprise!).

Try it out and let us know what you think.

Tag your wishlist

Posted November 1, 2008 in Updates

Today we’ve rolled out a new feature for your wishlist – tags! Tags are small keywords that you can use to organize your wishlist items and make your list easier for you and your friends and relatives to browse.

You can start using tags right away by activating the feature via the settings on your edit page. If you want to know more about what tags are and how it works, we’ve put together a small little page explaining it all.

We know a lot of you have asked for this functionality for a while so we are thrilled to have it all in place now. Please let us know what you think, and keep sending us your feedback.

Updates on Wishlistr

Posted September 12, 2007 in Updates

As you might have noticed things look a little different here on Wishlistr. We’ve tweaked the design a bit, optimized the code and added a new function that lets you keep track of your friends and their wishlists.

Adding a friend on Wishlistr is easy. Start by locating your friends Wishlistr accounts using our new search function. When you’ve found someone you want to add to your friends list simply visit his or hers profile page and click the link “Add to friends”. Done!

From your new friends page you can then keep track of all your friends, their wishlists and upcoming birthdays.

Go ahead and try it out, and don’t forget to let us know what you think!

Oh, and one more thing. We have also added a shiny new wishlist template called “Cake”.

Some of you have requested an alternative version of our bookmarklet that opens up in a pop-up, instead of temporary leaving the current page. Now we’ve created one! If you’d like to use this version of the bookmarklet, just drag the link below to your browsers bookmarksbar/toolbar:

Add your wishlist to your site

Posted August 3, 2006 in Updates

I little later than expected (sorry about that), but we’ve finally managed to put the finishing touches to our latest tool — the linkroll generator. What’s a linkroll you ask? Well, basically a linkroll is a list of links — in this case a list with links to items on your Wishlistr wishlist — that you can display on your website or blog.

The linkroll generator is easy to use. You just decide how many of your wishlist items to display, how to sort them and if the additional info should be shown or not. When you’re done we’ll give you a snippet of JavaScript code, which generates the list. Just add the snippet to your site’s code and you’re good to go. The list will automatically update as soon as you make any changes to your wishlist on Wishlistr.

Head over to the tools section and give it a try!

International characters now working

Posted June 3, 2006 in Updates

There’s been some problems with a number of universal characters and currency signs on Wishlistr. But after a few days of debugging and coding the problem is now solved! Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

It is now possible to use characters form the Greek, Cyrillic and Arabic alphabet in your wishlist, as well as Japanese and Chinese characters or any other universal characters in common use. If you experience any problems with some characters or signs from now on, please drop us a line and describe the problem.
